About the Battle of Suoi Tre
Honoring Vietnam Veterans (1967)
The Battle of Suoi Tre, fought on March 21, 1967 in Vietnam’s Tay Ninh Province, stands as one of the most courageous defenses of the Vietnam War.
This website, BattleofSuoiTre.org, was created to honor the brave soldiers who served, fought, and sacrificed during that historic day. Our mission is to preserve their stories, connect surviving veterans and families, and ensure that future generations understand the extraordinary courage shown at Suoi Tre.
Here you’ll find first-hand accounts, photos, and historical details dedicated to remembering those who answered the call with honor and valor.
Those of us who have been in combat share an experience and fear that only we can understand. Sometimes the fear is so overwhelming you don’t know how you’ll get through it, but somehow you find a way.
March 21, 1967, was such a bad day for us at the Battle of Suoi Tre.
In the early morning hours, we were ordered to gather our gear, get loaded into our personnel carriers, and hold on for dear life!
We had no idea what we were going to encounter, but we knew this was going to be bad.
As we broke trail through the jungle and got closer to the objective, the raging sound of gunfire and explosions got increasingly louder. Fear and adrenaline started to take over.
When we got to the battle site, we were ordered to dismount and ‘fix’ bayonets. We rarely got that order and knew this could become close and personal with the enemy. I remember shaking so hard with fear I could hardly attach the bayonet to my M16. I saw the same fear in my buddy’s eyes. Somehow, we all went forward and did what we had to do.
We didn’t know the artillery and infantry units had already sustained several casualties, we were almost out of ammo and were engaging in hand-to-hand combat. Had we, the support units not arrived when we did, all 450 men at LZ Gold, would have surely died.
We Vietnam Veterans are now part of America’s history.
Your current generation of men and women have picked up the torch to fight for America’s freedom. We, as well as people around the world that count on us.
We Veterans and the American people are proud of the outstanding job you are doing. Be assured, when you come up against these fears in combat, we who have also experienced these fears, are beside you in spirit and prayers.
Today we thank you for recognizing and honoring us who fought, and those who died 51 years ago at the Battle of Suoi Tre.
